Atlanta’s brazen sons of rock ’n roll are back and better than ever. After almost three years of wearing out the road, leaving crowds dazed and confused with their signature one-two-punch of a rock show, and writing new material destined to resurrect rock’s golden age, The Howling Tongues are ready to satisfy the demands of their dedicated fan base with their electrifying, self-produced new single, “Fever Dream,” featuring Atlanta’s fiery soul vocalist Lola Cole.
“We wanted to incorporate that punk, Ramones-Stooges feel, especially in the breakdown chorus, with that simple kick-snare-hat thing,” says lead guitarist and producer, Nick Magliochetti. “The bridge of the song was inspired by old spaghetti westerns. We thought it would be cool to go somewhere completely different with the bridge, then bring it back to the original thing before taking it over the edge for the ending, especially with adding Lola’s vocals to the mix.”
Written and self-produced, recorded, and mixed in the bands’ home studio on a vintage analog recording console, “Fever Dream” launches the Tongues into brand new territory as they blaze forward, preaching the gospel of rock and roll. An exciting combination of raw, gritty, glamorous psychedelia and Spaghetti Western-infused punk, it’s a bombastic, daring offering from rock’s most devoted disciples.
“It all came together fairly quickly,” Magliochetti goes on to say. “We worked on it together, and tracked it live in our studio space. We had a different verse idea that we liked initially, but we scrapped that and went for a really straight, simple, Ramones palm mute thing. We knew we wanted the bridge to take the listener somewhere else, though, so we committed to the Spaghetti Western sound and tied it all together with a wild end section. We brought Lola in to really add some dimension and depth, and it really made this cool, psychedelic sound that we thought fit the idea of the track really well.”
